Geriatric and Family Psychology
Dr. Goodman is a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with adults between the ages of 18 to 65, and people over the age of 65, as well as their family members and/or caregivers.
Dr. Goodman works with people who are depressed, bi-polar, anxious, and stressed. He works with people who may be concerned about their memory or have cognitive impairments including Alzheimer’s Disease or other types of dementia. Dr. Goodman works with family-members and caregivers in managing behavioral disturbances that frequently are associated with dementia.
Dr. Goodman's approach is tailored to fit the individual and the situation. For some people, depression or anxiety might have been triggered by a specific circumstance or situation. For others, depression or anxiety might be the result of a trauma at an earlier time in life. Either way, Dr. Goodman collaborates with the people who come to see him to develop a plan that works the best for them.
Many factors can cause mood disorders like depression and anxiety, and cognitive disorders like dementia. For that reason, Dr. Goodman pays close attention to a person’s medical conditions, medications, nutrition and sleep. From there, he works with the person using a variety of cognitive, behavioral and affective approaches to address the psychological (cognitive, emotional and behavioral) issues.
